How Do I Mote?
When asked by a new moter "How Do I Mote," we make every effort to answer the question just enough to midwife the new moter past the initial hurdles of unfamiliarity without unintentionally stealing from them the possibilities which they can bring to the process through their own innovations.
We are aware of the risks that our suggestions may be taken as the one and only way. There is no single form.
One of the miracles of moting is that everyone has a unique spark with which they have been entrusted. Each one may choose to share this spark with others in positive work -- as they wish. And the ways in which this spark may be shared is boundless. Certainly the methods we have encountered are just the tip of the tip of the iceberg. Hence, we do our best to say as little as we are allowed.
However, don't dismay. There are sign-posts. There are common threads of practice that run through all moting. Below is a list of several common threads shared by all moters. These form a common ground from which we work together.
- Moters share an intention to participate in the Circle.
- Moters acknowledge that for the duration of the moting event they are part of a cooperative Circle.
- Moters share the intention of being supportive in the work of the Circle.
- Moters share the intention that this be used for the benefit of all beings everywhere.
- Moters are aware that the event has a duration -- a beginning and an end.
While the above few threads of common practice may seem a little simple and perhaps obvious, they do give excellent hints from which one may explore methods of moting.
